Italy continues to manage various infrastructure developments, ranging from large-scale national projects to regional maintenance and legal scrutiny.

In Sicily, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has threatened to revoke the highway concession of the Consorzio per le Autostrade Siciliane (CAS) due to management and maintenance failures. This follows an investigation by the Messina Prosecutor’s Office into public procurement, which led to 12 precautionary measures against individuals accused of criminal association regarding public contracts. Nationally, the Council of Public Works approved the executive design phase for the Strait of Messina Bridge, and leadership at Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane was renewed for the 2026-2028 period.

Regional activities show an intensification of maintenance and utility works. In Ravenna, the redevelopment of the ‘Ex Carni’ area in the port is entering its operational phase, managed by Consorzio Adriatico to create a logistics and industrial hub. Road maintenance remains widespread, with Anas resuming work on the SS77 to perform seismic improvements on the Chienti III and Caldarola viaducts.

Newer developments include scheduled nighttime closures on the A8 Milano-Varese motorway and the D08 Gallarate-Gattico branch between August 31 and September 4 for noise barrier modernization and paving. In Rho, Gruppo CAP has entered the final phase of installing a new water network along via Lainate. This sixth stage requires a complete road closure between the via Tavecchia intersection and the Corso Europa traffic light from September 1 to September 30, 2026, due to the narrow roadway. Public transport lines will be diverted via via Ratti to maintain school access. Other regional works include traffic restrictions in Macerata, road resurfacing in Bibbiano, and maintenance in the Province of Cuneo, Augusta, Genova, and Fermo.
