The trial of Ivelin Tsvetanov has commenced at the Plovdiv District Court. Tsvetanov, a 23-year-old university student, faces charges of premeditated murder with particular cruelty regarding the death of Dimitrina Grozova. 

The incident occurred on August 18 of the previous year in the Pŭrvomay district of Plovdiv. Prosecutors allege that Tsvetanov entered the victim's home and inflicted nine wounds, including a fatal neck injury, using a knife. Evidence cited in the case includes DNA analysis, CCTV footage, mobile-phone location data, and a weapon containing the victim's blood. 

Tsvetanov, who was apprehended in a Sofia student dormitory, remains in pre-trial detention. The prosecution is seeking a sentence of 15–20 years or life without parole.
