Sources: 45. Developments: 2. Actor Michael Douglas has provided updates regarding the professional status of Jack Nicholson. During a promotional event in Swansea, Wales, for his memoir, “One Helluva Ride”, Douglas confirmed that the 89-year-old actor is no longer working in the film industry. Douglas stated that Nicholson is doing well and spending time near his home, noting, “He is not working anymore. He is well. He has disappeared. I know that.” Douglas further clarified that while Nicholson remains in contact, he has largely retreated from public life. He described Nicholson’s current lifestyle by stating, “He is up there by his house and walking around in his slippers. He deserves it. I understand.” These comments address previous speculation, including suggestions from filmmaker James L. Brooks that Nicholson might return to acting. Nicholson has not appeared in a feature film since 2010. The two actors share a long professional history, dating back to the 1975 film “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”, which Douglas produced. Douglas also expressed regret that the pair never had the opportunity to act in a film together. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-30: Michael Douglas provides update on Jack Nicholson's status Michael Douglas confirms that Jack Nicholson is doing well but has retired from acting, leading a quiet life away from the Hollywood spotlight. 31 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/michael-douglas-clarifies-jack-nicholson-retirement-status ### 2026-10-28: Jack Nicholson: Michael Douglas provides update on actor's retirement Michael Douglas confirms that Hollywood legend Jack Nicholson has effectively retired from acting, noting the 89-year-old actor is doing well but living a private life in Beverly Hills. 14 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/michael-douglas-suggests-jack-nicholson-has-retired-from-acting --- Cite as: Jack Nicholson retirement status updates.
