The Jack Reacher franchise has undergone significant shifts in both film and literary formats. Author Lee Child exercised a contractual veto to prevent a third film starring Tom Cruise, citing a disconnect between the actor’s stature and the character’s physical description in the novels. Child noted that the rise of streaming services offered a “fabulous luxury” for long-form storytelling, facilitating the transition to the Prime Video series starring Alan Ritchson.

In the literary realm, the creative process has transitioned from Lee Child to his brother, Andrew Child. While the brothers previously collaborated, Andrew has taken full creative control, a process completed with the novel ‘Chain Reaction’. Lee Child remains involved as a sounding board and an executive producer for the television adaptation.
