# Jacob Markström injury status with Florida Panthers > Live situation record from CLSTR: https://clstr.news/situations/jacob-markstrm-return-to-florida-panthers > Updated: 2026-10-20T19:45:35.000Z. Sources: 8. Developments: 4. Jacob Markström has returned to the Florida Panthers for a second stint following a summer trade from New Jersey in exchange for Evan Rodrigues and Jesper Boqvist. The 36-year-old goaltender is expected to serve as the team’s primary goaltender after the departure of Sergei Bobrovsky to Toronto. After an initial shutout in his first game back against the Carolina Hurricanes, Markström has faced recent physical setbacks. During a game against the Buffalo Sabres, he was pulled after the first period due to physical tightness. While he stopped nine of 11 shots before his exit, head coach Paul Maurice described the issue as “standard stuff” and expressed optimism regarding his availability for the following game. However, Markström’s availability has since been further complicated. He is expected to miss 10 to 14 days after being struck by a puck during a practice session at the Baptist Health IcePlex in Fort Lauderdale. This marks his second injury issue of the season, following an undisclosed injury that caused him to miss two games previously. During his absence, the Panthers are expected to utilize Akira Schmid as the starter, with Cooper Black called up from the AHL’s Charlotte Checkers to provide depth. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Florida Panthers goalie Jacob Markstrom sidelined by practice injury Florida Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom is expected to miss 10-14 days after being hit by a puck during practice. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/florida-panthers-goalie-jacob-markstrom-sidelined-by-practice-injury ### 2026-10-12: Florida Panthers goaltender Jacob Markstrom avoids major injury Florida Panthers coach Paul Maurice reports that goaltender Jacob Markstrom likely avoided serious injury after being pulled from a game against the Buffalo Sabres due to physical tightness. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/florida-panthers-goaltender-jacob-markstrom-avoids-major-injury ### 2026-09-30: Jacob Markström records shutout in return to Florida Panthers Goaltender Jacob Markström recorded a shutout in his first game back with the Florida Panthers, securing a 1-0 overtime win against the Carolina Hurricanes. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jacob-markstrm-records-shutout-in-return-to-florida-panthers ### 2026-09-25: Jacob Markström returns to Florida Panthers as primary goaltender Goaltender Jacob Markström has returned to the Florida Panthers, stepping into a primary role following Sergei Bobrovsky's departure to Toronto. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jacob-markstrm-returns-to-florida-panthers-as-primary-goaltender --- Cite as: Jacob Markström injury status with Florida Panthers.
