The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has issued several rulings regarding preventive detention under the Public Safety Act. In one instance, the court quashed the detention of Suhail Fayaz Najar, ruling that authorities failed to show a “live and proximate link” between his past conduct and the need for continued detention. In another case, the court quashed the detention of Mohd Yousuf, noting that the District Magistrate failed to distinguish between “public order” and “law and order.”

Additionally, a Jammu court discharged seven individuals accused of involvement in protests following the 2019 Pulwama terror attack, stating that mere presence at a gathering does not establish criminal liability. 

On an administrative level, the High Court sanctioned the establishment of a resident office in New Delhi to improve coordination with the Supreme Court and the Union government.
