In late September 2026, various Japanese temples and museums organized public viewings and exhibitions of sacred Buddhist artifacts.

During the autumnal equinox, Ryukozan Kannon-in in Okaya hosted a viewing of the Eleven-faced Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, which was uniquely illuminated by a ‘two suns’ effect caused by sunlight reflecting off Lake Suwa. Similarly, Shingyouji temple in Yokohama scheduled its ‘Gokaicho’ event to allow public access to its hidden Eleven-faced Kannon statue.

Following these seasonal viewings, major cultural exhibitions were announced. The Tokyo National Museum planned a commemorative exhibition for Daitoku-ji featuring national treasures and a statue of tea master Sen no Rikyu. Concurrently, the MIHO MUSEUM in Shiga Prefecture scheduled an autumn exhibition for Kudai-ji, which included the first public viewing outside the temple of a ‘Wooden Eleven-faced Kannon Standing Statue’ dating to the late 8th century.
