The Japanese swimming delegation is competing at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Irvine, California. 

Initial results included Tatsuya Murasa finishing fourth in the men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1:44.76, narrowly missing a medal by 0.17 seconds. Katsuo Matsumoto also competed in the same event, finishing seventh. 

Later in the competition, Tomoyuki Matsushita secured the first medal for the Japanese team by winning gold in the men’s 400m individual medley. Matsushita set a new championship record of 4:06.75. The championships serve as preparation for the Japanese squad, which includes various athletes ranging from junior record holder Shin Ohashi to veteran Satomi Suzuki, ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
