Recent data indicates evolving trends in the Japanese job market for university students, characterized by increased use of artificial intelligence and rising starting salaries. Surveys show that approximately 84.9% of students graduating in 2027 have utilized AI for tasks such as refining entry sheets and interview preparation, while roughly 90% of companies have raised starting salaries to attract talent. Students are increasingly adopting “pinpoint job hunting” strategies and seeking “satisfactory employment” by comparing multiple offers. There is also a noted trend among high-achieving students to seek job offers early in their third year, despite a desire to extend the overall search process. In response to these changing recruitment landscapes, educational and corporate entities are launching support initiatives. These include forums to facilitate dialogue between students and companies, as well as specialized programs providing systematic learning content to assist students with self-analysis, industry research, and interview preparation. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-05: Japan launches new initiatives to support student career design and job hunting Japanese institutions are introducing new programs to support students facing earlier and more complex job-hunting processes, including forums and systematic learning guides. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/japan-launches-new-initiatives-to-support-student-career-design-and-job-hunting ### 2026-09-30: Japan job hunting trends show rising AI use and salary increases Surveys show Japanese students are increasingly using AI for job hunting and focusing on “pinpoint” applications, while nearly 90% of companies have raised starting salaries to remain competitive. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/japan-job-hunting-trends-show-rising-ai-use-and-salary-increases --- Cite as: Japanese university student job hunting trends.
