Speculation regarding a potential trade for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jauan Jennings intensified as the NFL trade deadline approached. Reports indicated that Jennings, who has struggled with statistical production since joining Minnesota, was expected to be a frequent subject of trade discussions. Moving his contract was viewed as a potential way for the Vikings to save approximately $5.03 million in cap space.

A reported deal to send Jennings back to the San Francisco 49ers, where he previously played, ultimately failed. According to NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Minnesota and San Francisco organizations had reached terms for the deal, but the move was contingent on Jennings participating in a video call with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch. Jennings, who spent the first six seasons of his career with the 49ers, reportedly opted to remain in Minnesota instead of returning to the Bay Area.

San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan later confirmed the trade attempt. Shanahan noted that the teams had reached an agreement on certain terms that allowed for a FaceTime conversation with Jennings. During the discussion, Jennings expressed that he was “happy with his current situation in Minnesota.” Following this perspective, Shanahan stated he agreed with the decision to let the potential move proceed no further.

Jennings has recorded six catches for 54 yards in six games with the Vikings. His decision to stay in Minnesota has kept receiver Odell Beckham Jr. on the team's practice squad.
