Shawn Corey Carter, known as Jay-Z, has maintained a significant presence in hip-hop and the music industry for nearly three decades since his 1996 debut, ‘Reasonable Doubt’. His career is characterized by both musical success and extensive business ventures, including roles at Def Jam Records and the launch of TIDAL.

In recent reflections shared during the docuseries and podcast ‘JAY-Z In 8’, Carter revealed that he nearly abandoned his rap career following his debut album. He expressed a dislike for the public-facing requirements of being a performer, such as filming music videos and conducting interviews. He noted that the lifestyle of a recording artist felt like a step backward compared to his existing life and initially considered pursuing an executive career path instead of performing.
