US Vice President JD Vance has drawn attention for his commentary on the Netflix series ‘Emily in Paris’, which he has described as a ‘masterwork of American television’ and ‘the Shakespeare of our time.’

In social media videos, Vance provided what he called a ‘meta analysis’ of the show, suggesting it functions as a ‘massive cultural criticism of millennial decision-making.’ He argued that the protagonist’s ‘absurd’ and ‘atrocious decisions’ regarding her career and romantic life serve as significant cultural commentary. Specifically, he suggested the main character should ideally marry the French chef, Gabriel, to build a life together.

Reports indicate this stance follows a shift in his perspective; during a 2024 appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, he initially referred to the series as ‘some stupid show’ before correcting himself to call it a ‘masterpiece.’
