Jeju Province has implemented a series of measures to bolster its regional economy, focusing first on direct financial assistance for vulnerable populations and small businesses. The province expanded its special guarantee for small businesses to 180.55 billion KRW and introduced new programs for low-credit residents, including low-interest stability loans and inclusive savings programs designed to help residents build capital through subsidies. Following these social safety net expansions, the Jeju Provincial Council has moved to attract corporate investment through legislative amendments. The proposed measures include subsidies for land purchases, facility investments, and employment. However, local lawmakers have raised concerns that these incentives may be insufficient to compete with other regions, suggesting that Jeju must offer superior benefits or focus on developing a comprehensive industrial ecosystem to overcome its geographic limitations. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-20: Jeju Island seeks to boost corporate incentives amid regional competition Jeju Island is amending local ordinances to increase corporate incentives, though lawmakers warn current subsidies for land, facilities, and employment still lag behind other South Korean provinces. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jeju-island-seeks-to-boost-corporate-incentives-amid-regional-competition ### 2026-09-30: Jeju Province expands financial support for small businesses and low-income residents Jeju Province is increasing small business guarantees to 180.55 billion KRW and introducing new 1% interest loans and high-yield savings programs for low-income, low-credit residents. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/jeju-province-expands-financial-support-for-small-businesses-and-low-income-residents --- Cite as: Jeju Province economic support and investment initiatives.
