A court in Dakar is hearing a case regarding the theft of jewelry belonging to TFM presenter Awa Traoré, known as Eva Tra. The incident, which took place on July 24, resulted in an estimated loss of 14 million CFA francs.

Prosecutors have sought five-year prison sentences for two defendants: Mouhamed Coulibaly, a merchant charged with fraud, and Baye Guèye, a painter charged with receiving stolen goods. The theft was reportedly carried out via a sophisticated telephone scam where an individual impersonated a Sonatel agent to manipulate the victim's son into handing over the jewelry to a taxi driver.

While the defendants deny the charges, the prosecution has cited IMEI tracking to link the fraudulent calls to Coulibaly. The civil party is seeking 100 million CFA francs in damages, and Sonatel has joined the proceedings seeking 1 million CFA francs for the fraudulent use of its identity. A verdict is expected on October 9.
