A new documentary series titled ‘Operación Cisne Negro’ has released details regarding the 2015 escape and 2016 recapture of Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán. The production reconstructs how Guzmán escaped from the El Altiplano maximum-security prison via a tunnel over one kilometer long.

The series includes testimony from former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who discussed the institutional repercussions for his security cabinet following the escape. Additionally, the documentary alleges that intelligence operations were delayed for approximately three months by the CIA to avoid endangering American citizens involved in a meeting between Guzmán, actor Sean Penn, and Kate del Castillo. This delay reportedly extended Guzmán’s time at large from three months to six months.
