Sources: 15. Developments: 2. Johannes Golla, captain of the German national handball team, has requested an early termination of his contract with MT Melsungen to return to SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Initially, the player cited family adjustment difficulties as the primary reason for wanting to move closer to his roots. As the situation progressed, Golla stated on social media that his current living situation and separation from Flensburg have “seriously jeopardized his mental health.” He noted that the situation has moved beyond mere homesickness and admitted that his decision to sign with Melsungen was premature due to changing family circumstances. MT Melsungen sports director Jesper Larsson confirmed the club is seeking solutions regarding the request, which covers a contract running until 2031. While Flensburg initially declined early inquiries, their sporting director, Ljubomir Vranjes, has since indicated support for Golla, describing him as a “legend” at the club and suggesting the possibility of an exit clause. During a recent match, Golla was reportedly booed by some fans in Melsungen. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-04: Johannes Golla requests transfer from MT Melsungen due to mental health German handball captain Johannes Golla has requested a transfer from MT Melsungen back to SG Flensburg-Handewitt, citing serious mental health concerns and family reasons. 14 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/johannes-golla-seeks-early-exit-from-mt-melsungen ### 2026-10-01: Johannes Golla seeks return to Flensburg from MT Melsungen German handball captain Johannes Golla seeks to leave MT Melsungen for SG Flensburg-Handewitt due to family reasons, with a potential transfer fee of 1.5 million euros reported. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/johannes-golla-seeks-return-to-flensburg-from-mt-melsungen --- Cite as: Johannes Golla transfer request from MT Melsungen.
