Released by Sony Pictures Classics, the film follows Harry Lehman, an aging pickpocket in the Bronx who operates as an analog figure in an increasingly digital and cashless New York City. Turturro described the role as an exploration of a man becoming obsolete in a fast-changing world. The narrative follows Harry as he uses his skills to fund the care of his catatonic wife, Rosie. To prepare for the role, Turturro studied the art of pickpocketing under Apollo Robbins. The film features Giancarlo Esposito as a detective who shares a kinship with Harry, marking the first time the two Spike Lee alumni have appeared on screen together in approximately 35 years. The production is noted for its 1970s cinematic style and serves as an ode to the analog era of New York. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-22: John Turturro stars in New York-set film The Only Living Pickpocket in New York John Turturro and Giancarlo Esposito star in Noah Segan’s ‘The Only Living Pickpocket in New York’, a film about a thief caring for his disabled wife. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/john-turturro-stars-in-new-york-set-film-the-only-living-pickpocket-in-new-york ### 2026-10-20: Actor John Turturro stars in The Only Living Pickpocket in New York John Turturro stars as an aging pickpocket in “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York,” a film exploring the changing landscape of a digital New York City. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/actor-john-turturro-stars-in-the-only-living-pickpocket-in-new-york ### 2026-10-18: John Turturro stars in crime thriller The Only Living Pickpocket in New York Actor John Turturro stars in the crime thriller “The Only Living Pickpocket in New York,” playing an aging thief navigating a rapidly changing digital world. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/john-turturro-stars-in-crime-thriller-the-only-living-pickpocket-in-new-york --- Cite as: John Turturro film The Only Living Pickpocket in New York.
