Actor and visual artist Johnny Depp has debuted his first three-dimensional sculpture, titled ‘The Bunnyman’, at the 21st edition of the Contemporary Istanbul art fair. The two-meter-tall white bronze piece is being exhibited at the Tersane Istanbul shipyard.

The sculpture depicts a ‘half-human, half-rabbit guardian’ carrying a ‘sword of truth’. The concept is based on a drawing by Depp’s son, Jack, which triggered a recurring childhood dream Depp had of a faceless figure. While the character has appeared previously in Depp’s sketches and paintings, this marks its first transition into a three-dimensional medium.

Produced using the lost-wax technique, the project is a collaboration between the Sigg Art Foundation, Pantheon Art, and the Milan-based Fonderia Artistica Battaglia. The unveiling occurs alongside Depp’s ‘A Bunch of Stuff’ exhibition at the Modern Art Museum Shanghai. The Contemporary Istanbul fair features 1,372 works by 736 artists from 16 different countries, including Jaume Plensa’s seven-meter-tall black iron sculpture, ‘Juana’, which is also on display at the Tersane Istanbul esplanade.
