Musician Johnny Marr is releasing his fifth solo studio album, ‘The Age Of Everything’. Marr indicated that the creative process involved road-testing eight of the ten tracks live before studio recording. He described the new material as being driven by a ‘real sense of purpose’ and an effort to write upbeat songs.

The album, which was written in London, road-tested in North America, and recorded in Manchester, explores themes of modern life and the feeling of being overwhelmed by technology and information. Marr characterized the project as a cathartic exploration of cultural overload, viewing it not just as a dystopian condition but as a source of possibility. He described the songs as lean, fast, and dynamic.

In addition to the album release, Marr reflected on the legacy of The Smiths, noting the band’s intention to avoid ‘cheesy blues’ and traditional masculinity. He also addressed his ongoing estrangement from former bandmate Morrissey, citing differing political views and personal tensions as reasons why a reunion has not occurred despite potential offers.

Released via BMG, the album marks the start of what Marr describes as the largest touring cycle of his solo career. As part of these plans, he has announced a unique concert in São Paulo, Brazil, scheduled for November 24 at the Tokio Marine Hall, intended to connect with fans including a younger demographic of listeners.
