On August 29, an arson attack occurred at a family restaurant in the Fátima neighborhood of Joinville, Santa Catarina. Investigations indicate that 49-year-old Longino Dias Batista entered the establishment with fuel to target his former partner, who was not present. Batista died at the scene from burns.

Initial reports confirmed the death of the restaurant owner, Alice das Graças Teodoro, on September 6. While several others were injured, including the owner’s daughter, husband, son-in-law, and an employee, the death toll subsequently rose.

By mid-September, the fatalities increased to four following the deaths of 52-year-old employee Lidia Regiane Lick Da Luz and the owner’s 24-year-old daughter, Letícia das Graças Teodoro, who died after 17 days in intensive care. Two other individuals were injured in the blaze; one has been discharged while another remains in intensive care.
