Journalist Elí Alejandro Martínez has been located alive following an armed attack in the Cazones neighborhood of Poza Rica, Veracruz. On the night of Monday, August 24, Martínez and fellow reporter Raymundo Perdomo were targeted by assailants on motorcycles near a gas station on Avenida 20 de Noviembre.

While Perdomo escaped and is currently under the protection of authorities, Martínez was initially reported missing after being forced into a vehicle. Following an intensive search operation involving state and federal security forces, Martínez was found and has since provided a statement to the Prosecutor's Office.

The attack, which involved suspects using spike strips to hinder police pursuit, adds to a pattern of violence against the press in Poza Rica.
