In late August 2026, two youths, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, were arrested in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, for suspected forcible obstruction of business. The pair allegedly threw lit firecrackers into a police box grounds in the early morning of August 21. The 17-year-old reportedly claimed he wanted to “play tag” with the responding officers.

By early September, Japanese police reported further arrests involving teenagers in separate incidents. In Asahikawa, a 15-year-old girl was arrested for the suspected assault of another 15-year-old girl at a riverbed. Additionally, in Tokyo, five high school students were arrested for an organized extortion scheme in Shibuya, where they allegedly assaulted a man and stole 300,000 yen.
