Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz initially defended tactical decisions, such as deploying Reeve Frosler in a midfield role during a 1-1 draw against Stellenbosch FC, citing squad injuries and the need for aerial strength. He noted that Frosler’s versatility and previous testing in that position during pre-season were key factors.

Following an exit from the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers via a penalty shootout loss to Zambian side Red Arrows, Da Cruz faced increased scrutiny due to inconsistent results in the Betway Premiership and MTN8 Cup. However, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Junior has since issued a statement reaffirming ‘full support’ for Da Cruz and his technical team.

Despite the club having secured only three Betway Premiership victories in their opening eight matches, leadership emphasized a commitment to the long-term football philosophy and development pathway currently being implemented. Motaung Junior noted that while the club shares the disappointment felt by supporters, management remains confident that the current setup will lead to sustainable success through patience and resilience. Additionally, Da Cruz addressed concerns regarding midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, clarifying that there is no conflict between the player and the club, but rather high competition for positions within the squad.
