The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has initiated preparations for the 2027 Hajj pilgrimage. In August 2026, Director-General Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle issued a directive regarding documentation requirements to ensure compliance with timelines set by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

On August 31, 2026, Matawalle established September 5, 2026, as the final deadline for intending pilgrims to submit their e-passports. He warned that failure to meet this deadline would result in the forfeiture of the pilgrim’s slot, which would be reallocated to a standby list of approximately 200 qualified individuals. Any slots remaining unutilized after September 10 would be reclaimed by NAHCON for other states. The board noted that pilgrims missing the deadline would receive refunds within 24 hours. To improve logistics, the board is also planning early airlift arrangements, enhanced accommodation management, and streamlined issuance of “Masuk” identification cards.

In terms of leadership, Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf appointed Ambassador Muhammad Isa Umar, the Emir of Rano, as the Amirul Hajj for the 2027 exercise. This appointment, announced during a ceremony in the Rano Emirate, follows the state’s tradition of rotating Hajj delegation leadership among traditional rulers, succeeding the leadership of the Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Dr Abdulkadir Ibrahim.
