Sources: 12. Developments: 2. Kansas City Chiefs starting left tackle Josh Simmons has been placed on injured reserve due to a bulging, herniated disk in his lower back. The 23-year-old 2025 first-round draft pick is expected to miss at least four games, with eligibility to return as early as Week 11. Team athletic trainer Rick Burkholder noted that Simmons’ rehabilitation progress had “plateaued” in the final stages of recovery. The injury follows previous physical setbacks, including symptoms from a torn patellar tendon sustained during his collegiate career at Ohio State. Reports indicate the roster move follows a confrontation during an offensive team meeting. After head coach Andy Reid instructed Simmons to change his posture, Simmons cited back and hip pain. Following an intervention by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Simmons was directed to leave the meeting and seek medical treatment. Simmons has since apologized to team leadership for his handling of the interaction. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-25: Josh Simmons placed on injured reserve by Kansas City Chiefs Kansas City Chiefs tackle Josh Simmons has been placed on injured reserve with a back injury following a team meeting confrontation involving coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/josh-simmons-placed-on-injured-reserve-by-kansas-city-chiefs ### 2026-10-21: Kansas City Chiefs place Josh Simmons on injured reserve The Kansas City Chiefs placed left tackle Josh Simmons on injured reserve due to a bulging lower back disk, sidelining the first-round pick for at least four more games. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kansas-city-chiefs-place-tackle-josh-simmons-on-injured-reserve --- Cite as: Kansas City Chiefs Josh Simmons injury status.
