Heavy rainfall in Kaohsiung has caused significant geological instability and infrastructure damage. On August 28, a retaining wall on Songfu Street in the Xiaogang District collapsed, burying three motorcycles under debris. While no injuries were reported, the Xiaogang District Office initiated preventive evacuations for 28 residents, relocating them to hotels or with relatives.

As heavy rain continued, the situation worsened. A second collapse occurred on August 30 in the same area, expanding the damage zone to approximately 40 meters. In the Gushan District, soil loosening and cracks near embankments led to the suspension of classes at Shoushan Junior High School, Shoushan Elementary School, and its affiliated kindergarten on August 31.

Local authorities, including the Kaohsiung City Government and the Education Bureau, have deployed engineers to conduct safety assessments and monitor the ground conditions. Mayor Chen Chi-mai indicated that comprehensive improvement plans will be developed once the rainfall subsides.
