Former ice hockey player Jere Karalahti and former mixed martial arts fighter Mika ‘Immu’ Ilmen are scheduled to compete in a boxing match on September 12 at Helsinki’s Ice Hall. The bout is part of the ‘Immu Fight Night’ event and is expected to be broadcast live on the Ruutu streaming service.

The matchup follows a public challenge issued by Karalahti on Instagram, where he expressed a desire to see who ‘falls first’. Karalahti, who has previously faced legal issues including a conditional prison sentence for a narcotics offense, has indicated the fight is personal and intends to use prize money to address significant debts.

During a recent press conference, tensions escalated when Karalahti wore a t-shirt depicting Ilmen spreading sand on an ice rink, a reference to a story from Ilmen’s childhood. Karalahti suggested the imagery also alluded to Ilmen’s recent behavior, claiming Ilmen had discussed Karalahti’s legal history on his own podcasts. 

Karalahti stated that disciplined sports serve as a way for him to ‘stay on the right track’. He noted that while his health and lifestyle were suboptimal during his previous match against Matias Niemi, he is now focused on using this fight as a way to redeem himself athletically.
