Karatay Municipality has undertaken several initiatives to integrate climate risk management into local governance and urban planning. As a side event for ‘COP31 Antalya 2026’, the municipality hosted a workshop focused on translating climate change knowledge into actionable municipal processes, such as zoning plans and infrastructure investments.

Following this, Mayor Hasan Kılca presented the municipality’s resilience strategies at the 11th Urban Research Congress in Ankara. During the presentation, Kılca identified drought, groundwater depletion, and sinkhole formation in the Konya Basin as immediate strategic crises. He emphasized the need for scientific data and integrated state policies to address these risks, noting that Karatay previously became the first Turkish municipality to prepare a Voluntary Local Review report aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
