The 2026 Schlosslichtspiele festival in Karlsruhe is centered on the theme ‘Lightyard Stories: Visions of Urban Living Spaces.’ The event honors architect Friedrich Weinbrenner on the 200th anniversary of his death by utilizing the 170-meter facade of Karlsruhe Castle for projection mapping.

Featured artists include BBBank Award winners Henry Hu from Singapore, Studio Moebius X Three Oscillators from India, and Metanoia from the Czech Republic. 

In addition to the light shows, the city is hosting an open-air media art exhibition titled ‘Media art is here.’ This exhibition features 15 pieces across the city center, including ‘Urban Flowers’ by South Korean artist SangDoo Nam, which uses a concept inspired by blockchain technology to facilitate the exchange of images for personal stories.
