On August 13, 2026, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Afolabi Kazeem Michael, a social media influencer and jeweler known as ‘KC Luxury’, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The arrest occurred as Michael was attempting to board a flight to Paris and followed the interception of 184.5 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately N39 billion, found in a courier consignment.

Authorities alleged that Michael acted as a coordinator for an international cartel using Nigeria as a transit point to move drugs from South America to Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia. NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) stated that Michael used his public persona to mask criminal activities. During the arrest, investigators recovered various foreign currencies and expensive jewelry, and a search of his Banana Island residence yielded several exotic vehicles. A second suspect, Lawal Mujab Kehinde, was also arrested for his alleged involvement with the logistics company used to process the shipment.

Following 14 days of detention without formal arraignment, a Federal High Court in Lagos issued an order for the NDLEA to produce Michael. Justice Friday Ogazi addressed the legality of his continued custody, directing the agency to respond to legal challenges.

In a subsequent development, Michael filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit seeking ₦190 million in damages. Through his lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal (SAN), Michael alleged unlawful arrest, detention, invasion of privacy, and the unauthorized circulation of his images. The suit further claims that NDLEA operatives searched his residence without a warrant and found no incriminating material.
