Kelowna International Airport (YLW) has implemented new measures to enhance security and emergency preparedness. In early October, the airport partnered with Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers to launch a public awareness campaign titled ‘Crime doesn’t fly here.’ This initiative utilizes airport signage to encourage travelers and residents to report suspicious activity and criminal acts anonymously.

Following this, the airport scheduled a full-scale live emergency exercise for late October. The simulation, involving smoke and flames from a training aircraft, is designed to test the YLW Airport Emergency Plan and ensure coordination between various mutual aid agencies, including local fire departments, the RCMP, and health services. The exercise aims to clarify inter-agency roles for passenger support in accordance with Transport Canada requirements.
