The Kentucky Wildcats (7-1) defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 34-17 at Kroger Field, moving into sole possession of first place in the SEC with a 5-1 conference record. The victory places Kentucky a half-game ahead of No. 5 Georgia and marks the program’s first winning SEC record since 1977.

Despite an early 10-0 deficit and Vanderbilt’s initial dominance in time of possession, Kentucky scored 21 consecutive points to secure the win. Quarterback Kenny Minchey led the comeback with 203 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. While Vanderbilt freshman quarterback Jared Curtis provided an early spark, the Kentucky defense limited the Commodores to just 15 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Kentucky’s win serves as a turnaround from a loss to Vanderbilt last year. Following the performance, the AP Poll moved Kentucky up to No. 9 in the national rankings. The Wildcats continue to manage roster challenges, including the absences of Sam Greene and Nic Anderson, and a collarbone injury to running back CJ Baxter sustained during the game. Vanderbilt fell to 3-5 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
