Kenya is implementing strategic initiatives to expand its tourism sector and increase international visitor numbers. In July 2026, tourism leaders adopted the ‘Nairobi Commitment,’ a blueprint designed to promote meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) through infrastructure development, technological advancement, and policy reform. At that time, officials set a target to attract five million international visitors annually by the end of 2026.

By August 2026, the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife reported that the country had welcomed 2.76 million international visitors during the 2025/26 financial year, representing a 9.8 per cent increase from the previous year and generating record revenue of Ksh564 billion.

Building on this growth, the government is diversifying its focus toward sports and wellness tourism. In preparation for co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with Uganda and Tanzania, Kenya is exploring collaborations with Qatar to strengthen sports medicine and athlete welfare capabilities.
