Sources: 12. Developments: 2. KFC has launched a new restaurant prototype named ‘Open House’ in McKinney, Texas, to serve as a testing laboratory for its U.S. modernization and comeback strategy. The concept seeks to transition the brand from a traditional quick-service model toward a hospitality-focused experience, utilizing a design influenced by Art Deco and mid-century modern aesthetics. The prototype introduces several operational and menu changes. To facilitate a shift toward table service, the location utilizes digital kiosks for ordering, allowing staff to focus on guest interaction. The facility also features updated drive-thru technology, dual lanes, and a mobile order pickup station. Menu testing includes the debut of a breakfast service—operating from 6 a.m. to midnight—featuring items such as breakfast sandwiches, hashbrown sticks, and mini cronuts. New beverage options like boba refreshers and milkshakes are also being trialed. KFC US President Catherine Tan-Gillespie described the operational philosophy as being ‘digital where it’s helpful, but human where it matters.’ ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: KFC launches modern ‘Open House’ prototype in Texas KFC has opened a prototype ‘Open House’ restaurant in McKinney, Texas, testing modern designs, digital technology, and expanded menu options to revitalize the brand. 3 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kfc-launches-modern-open-house-prototype-in-texas ### 2026-09-24: KFC opens Texas prototype restaurant to test new menu and service KFC has opened an ‘Open House’ prototype restaurant in McKinney, Texas, testing a new hospitality-focused model featuring breakfast, boba drinks, and table service to reclaim market share. 9 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kfc-tests-new-open-house-hospitality-concept-in-texas --- Cite as: KFC Open House restaurant prototype testing.
