The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has identified discrepancies between advertised safety features and the actual specifications of KGM electric vehicles in the Australasian market.

Initially, ANCAP flagged the KGM Musso EV electric ute in Australia. While marketing materials indicated the vehicle featured eight airbags, testing revealed that approximately 306 delivered units lacked the centre and driver knee airbags. KGM Australia subsequently updated its marketing to reflect that these models contain only six airbags.

Following this, a similar issue was identified with the KGM Torres EVX electric SUV. Approximately 100 units across Australia and New Zealand were found to be missing the advertised ‘front row far-side’ or ‘front seat centre airbag’. In New Zealand, roughly 70 units were sold between March 2024 and March 2025, while approximately 33 vehicles have been sold in Australia since October 2025. While the Torres EVX was marketed as having eight airbags, the supplied models were fitted with only seven. ANCAP has encouraged KGM to implement production changes to include the missing component. Petrol and hybrid versions of the Torres are not believed to be affected, and existing owners have been advised to contact KGM or local dealers regarding safety concerns.
