Authorities in Brescia, Italy, have taken legal action against nine Indian citizens following an investigation into the kidnapping and violent extortion of a compatriot. 

The incident, which began in January, involved the victim and his mother being threatened with semi-automatic pistols at a post office to force a 6,000-euro withdrawal. Investigators determined that the victim had been kidnapped, beaten, and held at a farmhouse in the province of Rovigo. The suspects allegedly filmed the violence to use as blackmail to secure cash, credit cards, and bank transfers. 

After an incident in Ghedi, the victim was reportedly moved to a residence in the province of Reggio Emilia, where the violence continued before the post office confrontation. Of the nine suspects, eight have been imprisoned and one is under house arrest.
