Featuring Professor Dr. Ahmed Güner Sayar as the guest of honor, the event is themed ‘Human Remembers’ and ‘In the Footsteps of Novels and Memoirs’. To promote inclusivity, the fair has implemented accessibility measures, such as sign language interpretation for seminars, enabling hearing-impaired visitors, including athlete İrem Topaloğlu, to participate in the programming. Educational and cultural workshops remain a central feature. Archaeologist Kaan Polatlar led a session on mythology and the historical significance of Göbeklitepe, while researcher Uğur Ünal hosted a workshop combining literature with traditional Turkish coffee culture. Recent sessions have focused on social, psychological, and familial dynamics, featuring contributions from educators and academics such as Alişan Kapaklıkaya, Tuna Tüner, Associate Professor Saniye Bencik Kangal, and Professor Halis Aydemir. The fair has drawn massive interest, with visitors frequently utilizing suitcases, market carts, and strollers to transport large book purchases. The event also gained national attention through a viral photograph of an 80-year-old reader and featured the launch of a scientific book regarding the sports history of Kocaeli. As of October 9, the Kocaeli event celebrated reaching its one-millionth visitor. The fair features 515 publishers and over 1,000 activities, including philosophical talks by Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu. Recent programming has addressed global conflict and social development. Bosnian journalist and author Amina Seçeroviç Kaşlı delivered a talk titled ‘A View from Sarajevo to Gaza’, sharing her childhood experiences of the Bosnian War and discussing the impact of conflict on children. In observance of International Day of the Girl Child, psychologist Serdar Vatansever presented ‘He Who Does Not Praise His Daughter Will Regret It’, focusing on the necessity of family support and the role of male family members in raising confident girls. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-11: Kocaeli Book Fair hosts talks on war impacts and girl child development Speakers at the 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair discussed the impact of war on children and the importance of supporting girls' development through family investment. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kocaeli-book-fair-hosts-talks-on-war-impacts-and-girl-child-development ### 2026-10-09: Turkish municipalities host various regional book fairs Multiple cities in Turkey, including Kocaeli, Antalya, and Gaziantep, are hosting major book fairs and literary festivals to promote reading and connect authors with readers. 17 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kocaeli-hosts-16th-international-book-fair ### 2026-10-08: Kocaeli International Book Fair hosts experts on family and relationships The 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair features experts discussing child development, family communication, human relationships, and the search for meaning through various academic and literary talks. 8 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kocaeli-book-fair-hosts-discussions-on-family-and-relationships ### 2026-10-05: Kocaeli Book Fair hosts cultural workshops and accessibility programs The 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair features diverse cultural activities, including sign language accessibility for hearing-impaired visitors, archaeological discussions, and Turkish coffee workshops. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kaan-polatlar-discusses-gbeklitepe-at-kocaeli-book-fair ### 2026-10-03: Roger Crowley attends 16th Kocaeli Book Fair British historian Roger Crowley attended the 16th Kocaeli Book Fair, praising its high energy and comparing its scale favorably to literary festivals in the United Kingdom. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/roger-crowley-attends-16th-kocaeli-book-fair ### 2026-09-30: Kocaeli International Book Fair opens with rare book auction The 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair has opened in Turkey, featuring guest of honor Ahmed Güner Sayar and a rare book auction, with expectations of over one million visitors. 11 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kocaeli-international-book-fair-opens-with-ahmed-gner-sayar-as-guest-of-honor ### 2026-09-28: Kocaeli International Book Fair to host 515 publishers in October The 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair will be held from October 3-11 at the Kocaeli Congress Center, featuring 515 publishers and over 1,000 events, supported by free shuttle and ferry services. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/kocaeli-international-book-fair-to-host-515-publishers-in-october --- Cite as: 16th International Kocaeli Book Fair Ongoing.
