Pope Leo XIV appointed Marek Forgáč as the new Archbishop of Košice, succeeding Mons. Bernard Bober, whose resignation was accepted due to him exceeding the age of 75. Forgáč, a former auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese, is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 28.

Following this appointment, questions have emerged regarding whether the Vatican will fill the resulting vacancy for an auxiliary bishop. The decision to appoint a new auxiliary bishop rests with the Dicastery for Bishops, which evaluates the necessity of the role based on the size of the diocese, the number of faithful, and the workload of the diocesan bishop.
