Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara accused Ryanair gate personnel at Dublin Airport of discriminatory and threatening behavior toward him and his family. Sangakkara described the encounter as “shocking” and “unacceptable,” noting the tone of address used by staff during a trip from Bristol to Dublin.

In subsequent reports, Sangakkara explained to the BBC Sinhala Service that despite holding UK e-Visas and approved digital boarding passes, his family faced hostility during pre-boarding checks. Ryanair defended its staff, asserting that the dispute occurred because Sangakkara initially declined to present mandatory visa documentation required for verification during routine checks. The incident has prompted public debate regarding the treatment of passengers from developing nations and the scrutiny faced by travelers with limited visa-free mobility.
