The LP-2 road variant project in Fuencaliente, La Palma, recently underwent a procedural reset. Initially, the Government of the Canary Islands declared the expiration of public information and consultation procedures for the road section between El Remo and La Zamora. This expiration occurred because the file was not submitted for an ordinary environmental impact assessment within the required one-year timeframe following the conclusion of the previous public period in February 2025.

While the expiration meant previous reports and allegations could no longer be used for environmental evaluation, it did not cancel the project. Consequently, the Canary Islands Ministry of Public Works, Housing, and Mobility has reopened the public information and consultation period. 

The proposed infrastructure aims to improve connectivity between Los Llanos de Aridane and Fuencaliente to support island recovery. The plan involves a coastal variant of the LP-2 highway featuring two 4.8 km unidirectional tunnels. Interested parties now have 30 business days to submit inquiries or observations regarding the updated documentation.
