Developments: 2. In October 2026, Patras faced a series of scheduled strikes and protests involving various professional sectors. Hospital doctors, represented by the Federation of Hospital Doctors of Greece (OENGE), demanded salary increases and the recruitment of permanent staff for the public health system. Simultaneously, the Teachers' Federation of Greece (DOE) called for a 24-hour sectoral strike. Demonstrations were planned to begin with a gathering at the Patras Labor Center, followed by a march through the city. The Labor Center also organized preparations for an international anti-war strike involving 100 ports, scheduled for late October. By mid-October, large-scale mobilization continued in Patras, expanding to include university employees, students, and parents. These groups joined teachers and doctors in demanding wage increases, permanent recruitment in the health sector, and improved funding for public education. The Patras Labor Center has criticized the “commercialization of public health” and the insufficient resources provided to schools and universities, issuing calls for solidarity across these sectors. ## Timeline ### 2026-10-18: Chios and Patras face strikes over airport closure and public sector demands Strikes in Chios protest a four-month airport closure for runway works, while Patras sees mass mobilizations by teachers and doctors demanding better wages and public sector funding. 7 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/patras-to-host-strikes-by-doctors-teachers-and-university-staff ### 2026-09-21: Patras Municipality announces recruitment of 153 workers The Municipality of Patras is hiring 153 temporary workers for waste management and cleaning services.
