The transfer of Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara from AS Monaco to Chelsea collapsed in the final moments of the summer window. Despite reaching both verbal and written agreements for a fee of approximately €55 million (£47 million) and Camara completing his medical, Monaco withdrew from the deal at the last minute.

The collapse was triggered by a domino effect involving Monaco striker Folarin Balogun. Monaco had intended to sell Balogun to Everton to balance their finances, which would have facilitated the Camara sale. However, after initial medical concerns were raised, the Balogun deal appeared to be back on track, prompting Monaco to pivot and prioritize keeping Camara to avoid losing both players. When Balogun ultimately rejected the move to Everton at the final moment—reportedly due to discomfort regarding how his health concerns were handled—Monaco decided to retain both players, effectively canceling the agreement with Chelsea.

Chelsea management expressed significant frustration, describing Monaco’s conduct as “deeply unprofessional.”

Following the incident, Camara addressed the failed move during a press conference, describing the situation as a “hectic moment” that is simply part of professional football. He clarified that while Monaco had accepted a third bid, the move failed because the club did not complete the necessary paperwork to submit a deal sheet to the Premier League. Camara stated he has attempted to move past the incident to focus on his performance, noting support from Monaco captain and former Chelsea player Denis Zakaria.
