Following Spain’s 2-0 victory over France in the 2026 World Cup semi-final, winger Lamine Yamal described the team’s tactical approach of controlling possession to deny opponents space. Subsequent to the tournament, coach Luis de la Fuente praised Yamal’s maturity and potential to become a football legend. In September 2026, Yamal scored a decisive goal against England at Wembley Stadium and maintained his form during a Nations League match against Croatia, where he scored the tournament’s fastest goal. On October 2, 2026, ahead of a Nations League match against the Czech Republic, De la Fuente addressed potential lineup changes during a press conference in Oviedo. Prioritizing player welfare and physical management due to a tight international schedule, the coach indicated that Yamal might start on the bench. De la Fuente emphasized that the winger remains a vital asset regardless of his role, stating, “Lamine is equally important starting from the beginning or from the 45th minute.” Czech Republic coach Santi Denia, who previously worked with Yamal in the Spanish youth ranks, also commented on the player's trajectory. Denia lauded Yamal’s talent, describing him as a “world champion” and a potential Ballon d'Or winner, noting his ability to change games. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-26: Luis de la Fuente praises Lamine Yamal's potential Spain coach Luis de la Fuente praised Lamine Yamal's maturity and potential, stating the Barcelona winger has the qualities required to become a football legend. 5 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/luis-de-la-fuente-praises-lamine-yamals-potential ### 2026-09-22: Lamine Yamal details Spain's tactical victory over France Lamine Yamal explains how Spain's strategy of controlling possession and limiting space allowed them to defeat France 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup semi-final. 2 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/lamine-yamal-details-spains-tactical-victory-over-france --- Cite as: Lamine Yamal and Spain national team performance.
