Developments: 2. Heavy rainfall and landslides caused significant disruption in Castellammare di Stabia, impacting the historic center, port zones, and the Madonna della Libera locality. Mud and debris flows blocked major roads and tunnels, including the Pozzano tunnel. While emergency crews worked to reopen primary traffic arteries, approximately fifty families faced potential evacuation due to instability in hilly areas. Local political groups, Democratici e Progressisti, criticized the regional government, claiming that 10 million euros in CIPE funding allocated in 2012 has remained stalled for 14 years, leaving the city vulnerable to recurring hydrogeological emergencies. Restoration efforts have since transitioned to specialized technical interventions. Following initial cleaning by Velia Ambiente in Via Bonito and Via Caio Duilio, a specialized firm was activated to perform complex securing and restoration work. The Extraordinary Commission of the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia is coordinating these activities, prioritizing sites based on urgency and safety needs. ## Timeline ### 2026-09-28: Castellammare di Stabia continues restoration after landslides Restoration and cleaning efforts are continuing in Castellammare di Stabia following landslides, with specialized firms deployed to secure affected areas. 4 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/castellammare-di-stabia-continues-restoration-after-landslides ### 2026-09-25: Castellammare di Stabia hit by landslides and mudflows Landslides and mudflows in Castellammare di Stabia have caused road closures and residential risks, sparking local criticism over a 14-year delay in implementing hydrogeological safety funding. 6 sources. https://clstr.news/cluster/castellammare-di-stabia-hit-by-severe-landslides-and-mudflows --- Cite as: Landslides in Castellammare di Stabia.
