Medical specialists at Trincomalee General Hospital in Sri Lanka successfully removed a 3.1kg bladder stone from a 55-year-old man. The stone, which measured between 14cm and 19cm in length, was described as being comparable in size to an ostrich egg and in weight to a full-term newborn baby.

The patient was initially admitted for treatment following a stroke, during which doctors noticed he was having difficulty urinating. Dr. Prahalahan Balakrishnan, who led the surgical team, stated the stone had likely been developing for five to ten years.

The procedure may set a new record, as the weight exceeds the previous Guinness World Record of 1.9kg set in Brazil in 2003. The patient remains under medical supervision for his other health conditions and is reported to be in good health.
