Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger has alleged that the platform's integrity is compromised, claiming that intelligence agencies, including the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Mossad, have edited its content.

In interviews, including one with the Berliner Zeitung, Sanger stated, “What we know for certain, based on all kinds of evidence, is that the CIA has already edited Wikipedia.” He suggested that the platform's anonymity allows these entities to use pseudonyms as a “mask” to influence content in favor of specific geopolitical interests, such as Zionism or U.S. wars. Sanger further alleged that various corporations and well-resourced organizations work to modify content on behalf of wealthy individuals and governments.

Sanger highlighted the increasing significance of these concerns due to Wikipedia's role in training search engines and artificial intelligence systems. He noted that AI tools frequently consult the encyclopedia to generate answers and specifically mentioned that xAI's “Grokipedia” has utilized content or phrases taken almost directly from Wikipedia articles. While expressing regret over having created the platform due to its vulnerability to propaganda, Sanger acknowledged that much of its content remains useful.
