Latvia is addressing significant infrastructure costs and logistical challenges related to major transport projects in Riga.

Regarding the Vanšu Bridge reconstruction, Economics Minister Viktors Valainis warned that a total closure of the bridge could result in economic losses of approximately 700,000 euros per day. To mitigate this, Valainis proposed constructing a temporary bridge over the Daugava using state material reserves, which could later serve defense or other repair needs.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Transport has outlined the costs for conserving a Rail Baltica viaduct and pier over the Daugava River. Engineering conservation for the Riga Central Station 3A sub-section is estimated at €81,414 including VAT. Long-term conservation and maintenance needs through 2035 are estimated to reach approximately €582,069 excluding VAT.
