Law enforcement and excise authorities in Odisha have conducted a series of raids and enforcement operations targeting illegal activities, including gambling, drunken driving, and liquor smuggling.

In late August, police in Berhampur raided a gambling den, seizing cash and vehicles, while Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack executed a night safety drive that resulted in hundreds of drunken-driving cases and vehicle seizures. 

By early September, excise operations expanded to target the illegal liquor trade. In Balipatna, authorities seized 5,000 litres of country liquor, firearms, and vehicles with fake number plates, leading to seven arrests. However, a raid in Sundaragad drew criticism after the detention of a woman and her two-year-old son, an action the Child Welfare Committee characterized as “illegal” after no liquor was found on the premises.
