Activities at the Le Cesine Nature Reserve in Italy have focused on both archaeological research and environmental conservation.

Archaeological excavations led by the University of Salento are scheduled to take place at the San Giovanni site from September 7 to October 4, 2026. This campaign includes the establishment of the Acaya LandLivingLab to manage finds and engage the community. A primary scientific objective is the underwater investigation of a submerged port complex to determine if its structures date back to the Augustan age.

Simultaneously, environmental initiatives under the ReMaRe project have conducted educational field visits to study coastal dune ecosystems. These efforts aim to address coastal erosion and habitat regeneration in the southern Adriatic. Experts have highlighted the role of native vegetation in stabilizing dunes, which serve as a vital barrier protecting the marshland’s biodiversity from extreme climatic events.
