Following the cancellation of PNRR funding for a planned student residence in Germanedo, the political group Alleanza Verdi e Sinistra (AVS) called for the repurposing of public properties to address the local housing crisis. AVS argued that the rise of short-term tourist rentals has reduced the supply of long-term leases, making it necessary to provide housing for low-income workers and families.

In response to such housing needs, the municipality of Lecco approved a plan to convert 16 municipal apartments on Via Belfiore into social housing. Managed by Aler Bergamo-Lecco-Sondrio, the initiative targets the ‘grey area’—residents with incomes too high for public housing but too low for the private market. The project involves renovating 11 vacant units and relocating residents from five occupied units, pending funding from the Lombardy Region’s Social Housing call for tenders.
